Melbourne, September 8.

Canadian Blast made a pit stop at the Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne’s Chinatown this evening to put on a pre-BIGSOUND reception and showcase for the local industry and fans.

The Canadian delegation for this leg of the mission includes CIMA, Canadian Music Week (longtime Canadian Blast partner whose 2015 festival edition features Australia as the spotlight country), Manitoba Music, Nevado Music and Tonic Records.

Represented by Nevado Music Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Jordan Klassen opened the showcase supported by bandmate Jocelyn Price on keyboard and backing vocal duties. In between songs and tuning his ukulele he engaged the room with cheerful banter and expressed how excited he was performing in Australia for the first time. Klassen is likened by the media as a cross between The Shins and Sufjan Stevens with his ornate and pensive music inspired by his personal, coming of age journey – he has put on such a goose bump inducing performance and we can’t wait to see more of him at BIGSOUND!

Fresh from his show in Byron Bay multi-talented musician and social activist Buckman Coe served up his unique brand of sun-kissed, folk-soul-gospel-reggae infused melodies. With Mary Ancheta on keyboard and backing vocals as well as Sam Cartwright on drums the Vancouver trio’s set got us all dancey and reflective at the same time, and we were SOLD! Absolutely positively excited for BIGSOUND delegates and Brisbane music fans to experience Buckman Coe (represented by Tonic Records) for themselves!!

Move over White Stripes and Black Keys as next came our very own two-piece band hailing out of Winnipeg - Mise en Scene took the stage looking extremely arresting in shiny gold jackets! Smokey-voiced Stefanie Blondal Johnson and hard-hitting drummer Jodi Dunlop showed us how to rock out with a set that oozed charm and chemistry - the purity in their pairing is undeniable. Represented by Pipe & Hat, Mise en Scene looks forward to two more showcases in Australia, on September 10th and 11th at BIGSOUND LIVE in Brisbane.
