CIMA GEARS UP FOR THE SECOND EDITION OF THEIR AFTERPARTY CELEBRATING THE ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE OF THE INDEPENDENT MUSIC SECTOR IN CANADA

Toronto, ON (March 6, 2023) – Following a successful first edition in 2022, CIMA’s AFTERPARTY is back and heading to Edmonton to celebrate the triumphs of the Canadian Independent Music Sector!

The AFTERPARTY will be musically directed and hosted by Polaris Music Prize winner Cadence Weapon and backed by The Barkells, featuring a stacked slate of guest performers, JUNO nominees and winners. The event will also showcase the vibrant creative community of Edmonton as we raise a toast to our sector’s achievements over the past year.

There’s a lot to celebrate this year as the music industry slowly saw a return to live with artists getting back on the road and connecting with fans and music lovers from across the country. This year also saw over 175 JUNO nominees, with a whopping 74% from the independent sector.

For decades CIMA has supported the successes of the independent music industry in Canada and our growing membership of over 350 Canadian-owned companies connects to thousands of artists across the country and represents every aspect of the independent music eco-system.

Presented by CIMA and Alberta Music, the AFTERPARTY will take place on March 11 following the JUNOS Opening Night Gala and will be held at the Indigenous-owned historic Pendennis Building (9660 Jasper Avenue) from 9PM until late. This event is by invite-only and subject to capacity. The event is 18+. Invitations to follow.

To further highlight the independent music community, CIMA has partnered with Blackbyrd Myoozik to present a pop-up record shop at the Pendennis Building leading up to the AFTERPARTY Event. The shop will feature a selection of titles from JUNO nominees and include surprise artist appearances. The shop will be open to the public March 9th – 11th, from 11am to 6pm daily. The pop-up will also include an associated lounge in partnership with YouTube, for the enjoyment of both fans and CIMA AFTERPARTY attendees.

CIMA’S 2023 AFTERPARTY event partners include: YouTube, Blackbyrd Myoozik, The Orchard, Explore Edmonton, ATB, Sonic Unyon, Bird Creatives, Campio / Bear Hill, Inniskillin, Pendennis Building, ArtHaus, CONNECT, Monstercat, Starfish Entertainment, Nettwerk Music Group, Edmonton Downtown, and media partner CKUA.
