Breaking Down Racial Barriers & CIMA Receive 2022 Canadian Live Music Industry Awards Nomination

#ForTheLoveOfLIVE Award – Coalition/Collaboration

CIMA is thrilled to learn that Breaking Down Racial Barriers (BDRB) has been nominated for a 2022 Canadian Live Music Industry Award, presented by El Mocambo in partnership with Canadian Music Week (CMW) and the Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA). This acknowledgment can be found within the category: #ForTheLoveOfLIVE Award – Coalition/Collaboration.

CIMA is proud to be the founding partner of BDRB alongside creators Ian Andre Espinet and David “Click” Cox. What began as a 10-part workshop series in 2020 has grown into ongoing cross-country discussions, advocacy, and education around dismantling anti-Black racism in the Canadian music industry.

In June 2021, BDRB and CIMA opened The Declaration to signatories for individuals, organizations, small businesses, corporations, and all levels of government to work toward eradicating anti-Black racism within their collective spheres of influence. Following that in February 2022, BDRB and CIMA marked the release of Volume 1 of the BDRB Report as an additional resource for signatories of the Declaration and the industry at large.

BDRB has opened registrations for “NEXT STEPS,” a FREE equity-focused monthly professional development workshop series presented by CIMA. Moderated by BDRB, workshops will pair music industry insight from experts and leaders with training components delivered by equity consultants from the KOJO Institute. To learn more, click here.
