Join Manifesto and CIMA at It's OK, a new independent Black-led and operated, interdisciplinary, multipurpose arts space, for a series of workshops. Understand the influence Hip Hop has had on pop culture, fashion and sound. Championing the importance of hands-on learning and this year's summit will be no different.
2 pm - 6 pm - Two interactive workshops exploring the influence and impact of Hip Hop culture on fashion, design and pop culture. Workshops are led by:
Get Capped': UK-founded, Toronto-based jewellers leading a workshop talking about the importance that grills, caps and gold teeth, in general, have played an important part in hip-hop culture and how it’s stayed relevant until today's generation. They will also be touching on where it originated and how important it is within the black diaspora throughout the world. The attendees will be able to create their own silver caps to take home and also engage in the process of how they are made.
Dr. D'Wayne Edwards: Design workshop led by one of the most prominent Black designers in the footwear industry. The workshop will focus on storytelling through sneakers offering examples of how the staple brand in Hip Hop, Adidas, has told stories through sneakers using colour, graphics and materials. Attendees will then design a piece as a group.
6:00-8:00 PM- Powered by SOCAN, we will wrap up the evening with a segment called Cookin' Beats with Multi-Platinum Producer OG Parker. OG Parker, who has produced for artists such as Migos, Chris Brown, PartyNextDoor, Meghan Thee Stallion, just to name a few.
