Issues affecting our industry

The music industry punches above its weight when basic needs are met for our companies and creators – now, imagine what we could achieve if our people were full-on thriving. Beyond leading copyright and broadcast policy, assessing the effects of technology on creators and copyright owners, and ensuring that various levels of government across the country understand our sector, we know community comes first. On a professional level, that means access to capital and investment for music companies and artists, education, resources, and opportunities to master new markets and export Canadian-owned music around the world. On an individual level, each person working in our sector needs to know their basics are covered: affordable housing, access to healthcare, mental health supports, and childcare, equitable, safe, and fair workplaces, be they an office or a venue. These issues are always a part of the conversation at any table we have a seat at.
