Merlin Will Be Opening A US Office, Jim Mahoney To Lead Operations
Merlin, the global music rights agency for independent label sector, has just announced that it will be opening an office in the U.S! Merlin, with a head office in Amsterdam and an office in London, represents over 20,000 independent labels from 39 countries. It’s been a big year for Merlin, having signed the first direct deal ever with Pandora and being expected to collect payments worth approximately $160 million over the course of the next year.
According to their website, Merlin “protects the copyrights of their members in light of infringement or abuse, established effective access to revenue streams previously unavailable to independents (like, for example, their direct deal with Pandora), and creates a body that acts as an efficient, broad reaching and direct entry point to the indie sector.” [Source]
According to Billboard, Merlin has tapped Jim Mahoney, formerly the VP at A2IM to lead this U.S. office, which will be based in New York City. His role will be in managing the development and growth of Merlin’s American membership and overseeing day-to-day relationships with the American-based digital services. Besides serving as VP at A2IM, Mahoney has 20 years of experience in the industry, with stints in executive positions at Roadrunner, Fat Beats and Profile.
