CIMA continues talks with federal government officials to provide information on how the recent changes related to processing Labour Market Opinions (LMOs) will negatively affect the independent music sector within Canada.

As background, the Government of Canada recently introduced a $275 per person fee to apply for a Labour Market Opinion, which would be applicable to bars or restaurants wishing to book a non-Canadian act to perform.

CIMA is emphasizing that the new fee will have a detrimental and cascading effect through the entire industry, and at the end of the day may result in the loss of jobs and the loss of business opportunities both in Canada and internationally.

We need your feedback.

We are encouraging any and all statements, feedback, anecdotes, or specific examples from the industry of how this new process has or will affect your business.

Those who wish to provide feedback to assist in CIMA's efforts are encouraged to contact Stuart Johnston, President of CIMA, at stuart@cimamusic.ca
