CIMA-Related Awards in Hamilton and the 2016 CMAOs

On Sunday, May 29, the 12th annual Hamilton Music Awards were held at the Dofasco Centre in downtown Hamilton. Musician and author Ian Thomas hosted the event, honouring notable Hamilton figures from the Canadian and international music scenes.

CIMA-related artists featured prominently, receiving HMA trophies in a variety categories:

• Album of the Year and Alternative/Indie Rock Recording of the Year went to The Dirty Nil for “Higher Power” on Dine Alone Records.

• For his “Beautiful Scars” album, Tom Wilson (aka Lee Harvey Osmond) won Best Roots Recording and Male Artist of the Year.

• Terra Lightfoot was honoured with Female Artist of the Year, Best Female Vocalist and Songwriter of the Year for her 2015 full-length, “Every Time My Mind Runs Wild”.

Six Shooter Records' Whitehorse and UTA's Walk Off The Earth were also recognized – for Adult Alternative Recording (“Leave No Bridge Unburned”) and Best Pop Recording (“Sing It All Way”), respectively.

Finally, Hamilton’s own Monster Truck picked up multiple honours, including Group of the Year and Rock Album of the Year for “Sittin’ Heavy” on Dine Alone Records. They were also recognized at the HMA Gala the previous Saturday, for Best Male Vocalist and Best Bassist (Jon Harvey), Best Drummer (Steve Kiely) and Video of the Year (“Don’t Tell Me How to Live”), which can be seen below:

In related news, eOne Music Canada's Jason Blaine picked up his own series trophies at the 2016 CMAO Awards, held on May 30. The exciting Country Music Association of Ontario event took place in Markham Ontario, and saw Jason honoured for Songwriter of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year, on the strength of his 2015 album, "Country Side".
