TORONTO, ON – October 3, 2012: Today, the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA)announces the launch of MusicOntario, a new division that will act as the hub for the music industry across the province.

MusicOntario will be a member-based, not-for-profit industry association, representing and serving members from all facets of the music industry, including artists, bands, labels, publishers, studios, agents, managers, venues, promoters, producers, songwriters, retailers, and more. It will serve as Ontario’s first grass-roots organization solely focused on the professional development needs of the province’s broad music industry.

Through its programs and services, MusicOntario will provide advocacy/policy leadership, professional development/education, community engagement, information, industry development, music discovery, and networking opportunities to nurture, develop and promote the growth and sustainability of the Ontario music industry.

MusicOntario is a division of CIMA, and was created in response to industry demand. Last year, CIMA’s Board of Directors approved a new Strategic Plan which, in part, directed the creation of an Ontario music industry association.

Scott Honsberger has been appointed as MusicOntario’s inaugural Executive Director, who will oversee the development and execution of its programs and services.

“CIMA is excited to create and launch this new organization, one that will be focused on broadly servicing the needs of Ontario’s music industry,” says Stuart Johnston, President of CIMA. “We are particularly excited to have Scott on the team, as he brings a tremendous amount of experience, knowledge, sheer energy and enthusiasm to the role.”

For his part, Honsberger says he is keen to deliver quality services to the industry province-wide. “I’m eager to start working with CIMA to build a provincial association here in Ontario that serves musicians as well as emerging and growing industry professionals.”
