Bernie Finkelstein Joins TableRock Board of Directors
CIMA co-founder and long-time board member Bernie Finkelstein has joined the Board of Directors at TableRock Media. Finkelstein is president of Finkelstein Management and also the founder of True North Records. A veteran of the music business in Canada and around the world, Finkelstein’s new role will involve the development of brand partnerships.
TableRock was established in 2015 by Jeffrey Elliott and Joseph Arcuri (of GlassBOX Television) and David Hatch (of Whistlestop Productions), with the goal of offering niche digital programming through a suite of direct-to-consumer channels. Their core business will be to provide over-the-top content (OTT) that addresses areas such as guitars, aviation and motorcycles. Their initial app-based content streaming service, Guitar Channel, will be available by subscription later this year through Apple, Android, top gaming consoles and other digital platforms.
In his career to date, Finkelstein has worked closely with Bruce Cockburn, Rough Trade, Murray McLaughclan, Randy Bachman, and organizations such as the Ontario Film Development Corporation, SOCAN Foundation, Canadian Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CIMA. In 2012, he documented his varied music industry career in the McClelland & Stewart memoir, True North: A Life in the Music Business.
For his many contributions to Canada’s entertainment sector, Finkelstein has received honours that include the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Order of Canada, the Walt Grealis and SOCAN Special Achievement Awards, as well as being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Commenting on Finkelstein’s new role at TableRock, Elliott affirmed:
“Bernie’s well-respected career as a leader in the music industry will be invaluable to our Board of Directors and executive team as we get ready to launch our first App-based streaming service focused on Guitars later this year. His substantial knowledge and expertise will play a significant role in the creation of original, premium content and member experiences specifically tailored to guitar fans.”
