It's official - New Music Fridays will launch on July 10, 2015 giving more than 45 countries worldwide a single, aligned global release day for new music. This change has been in the works for a while, as we've previously posted about, but the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has just released some of the finer points.

  • As of July 10, new albums and singles will come out at 00:01 on Fridays.
  • What's the reasoning? Currently, album and single release schedules vary country-by-country causing frustration for consumers, and making less tangible sense in a digital environment.
  • The initiative was spearheaded by IFPI, in consultation & partnership with groups like WIN, Impala, and more.
